The England manager Expresses Disappointment Over Wembley Crowd Support Following Dominant Win Over Wales.
The England head coach expressed his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not get stronger backing from the home crowd during their decisive triumph over Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad showcase their strong performance, with finishes from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the opening quarter settling the game. However, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the iconic venue.
“With one and a half training days to prepare against a well-trained team and we excelled,” Tuchel remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at half-time. We couldn’t score the fourth and fifth ones. There was little noise. There was no support back from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you provide in the first quarter? We didn’t let them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for 30 minutes, it’s sad because the squad deserved more support today.”
“I stand by this statement. There’s nothing more than being 3-0 in a derby. I hoped for a bit more support in phases where it becomes tough.”
“After halftime, to support us, there was a bit too much support for Wales. It could have helped us to regain energy, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Selection Choices Vindicated by Display
Apart from potentially starting a fight with fans, the manager also raised eyebrows by excluding Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the move was justified by Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He is what he is,” the head coach noted. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his spot.”
Wales Manager Seeks Lessons from Defeat
Craig Bellamy expressed hope that Wales, who face a strong Belgian side in a important qualifying match on next week, take lessons from their poor performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I scheduled this match,” Bellamy stated. “I need to see where we are. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? This performance fills me with drive.”
Injury Concern for Striker
Watkins was withdrawn at the break after colliding with a post and may miss out when England face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a World Cup qualifying match on Tuesday.
